TAC's reports on development of China's T&I industry and language professionals released

On the occasion of the 8th National Congress of the Translators Association of China (TAC) held on 1 April 2022, among other agenda items, the 2022 Report on Development of Translation and Language Service Industry, 2022 Report on Development of Translators and Interpreters and 5 sets of industry standards and specifications were released at the Congress.
In the 2022 Report on Development of Translation and Language Service Industry, the development trends and achievements in China's language service industry are explored. According to the report, China's translation and language service sector keeps expanding in 2021, featuring extensive application of AI technology in the profession, fast development of T&I education and steady progress in industrial standardisation.
As the first-ever report on China's T&I talent , the 2022 Report on Development of Translators and Interpreters analysed the status quo of the community of translators and interpreters, its characteristics and challenges facing the profession. The report points out that China now has a total of 5.38 million practitioners involved in language services, including 980,000 full-time translators and interpreters. However, certain problems exist in the market, including insufficient number of translators and interpreters in less widely-spoken languages.
